What is a Shoe Box Scan?
It is an economical scan service on bundle of at least 20 prints, negatives or slides, scanned and saved as jpeg digital images on CD. To offer the best value we apply just basic corrections and require your originals be prepared and submitted to our specific requirements.
No longer do family members need to argue over who has the family photos. PhotoCentric’s Shoe Box Scan service is your solution to provide CDs of your photos for everyone. Once scanned to CD your photographs are protected from silverfish, humidity, crayons and adhesives, the ravages of time and poor storage conditions.
These scans may be viewed and emailed on your computer, played back on most modern DVD players, and made into photos & photo books on our easy self-serve kiosks.
Please be aware that the quality, age and cleanliness of your originals will affect the result. To keep the service economical we are unable to work with the same level of detail and individual attention on images as our regular service. The efficiency and
complexity of the Shoe Box Scan process does not allow us to put images in a particular order. Also please be aware Federal law forbids us to scan copyrighted images, UNLESS you have a written copyright release from the copyright holder, which is generally the photographer.
How to Prepare Your Images for Scanning
1. Photos
-
Only loose photos may be scanned. All photographs must be removed from albums and album pages.
-
Make certain there is no sticky tape, blue tack or adhesive substance on the photos.Remove all staples, paper clips etc., as these will damage our scanner.
-
Sort pictures by size and align in the same direction. We can scan wallet size up to 8X12”. We request that you bundle each size separately. A 4X6” index card is a handy way to separate your bundles. If a picture is turned sideways or upside down it will be scanned that way. You may want to sort back to front as the scanner feeds the bottom image first.
-
Photos with information written on the back, which you wish to have scanned with the photograph, will need to be sorted separately and marked with a Post It note for ‘Two Sided Scanning’. This counts as 2 scans.
-
Photographs must be unmounted (not on any thick backing). Regrettably some Polaroid and Kodak Instant Prints will not scan in our high speed scanner. If you would like, these images may be added as regular scans at the regular cost.
2. Colour Negatives – 135 or 35mm size
-
Shoe Box Scan pricing applies only to cut strips of 4, 5 or 6 colour 35mm negatives with every negative on the strip scanned and charged, i.e.; all negs will be scanned regardless – they cannot be selected individually.
-
Single cut negs cannot be scanned on this service due to the film length limitation on our high speed scanner
-
Neg strips with less than 4 negatives will be surcharged 1 extra scan cost plus the scans on that strip, i.e.; 2 as 3 & 3 as 4, as they are difficult to handle.
3. Colour Slides – 35mm size
